At the UN’s Climate Change Conference, held this month in Egypt, the issue of food waste was highlighted. Data presented at the conference* showed that food waste is responsible for 8% to 10% of greenhouse gas emissions. The UN warns of inefficiency in handling food around the world; as the number of hungry people has already climbed to more than 828 million.

Advanced technologies for disinfection, sorting and grading of agricultural produce enable to optimize supply chains and reduce food waste.

Eshet Eilon has developed a full range of technological solutions for packinghouses, food companies and retail chains, which includes advanced sorting and quality control systems. Eshet’s systems can handle more than 50 different fruits and vegetables, and are able to assess the quality of the produce and sort it accordingly. Accurate sorting, according to the external and internal properties of the fruit or vegetable, optimizes product deliveries and reduces waste at the stores and markets.

Eshet also developed, in collaboration with experts from the Volcani Center of Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture, a series of machines that disinfect fruits, vegetables, processed foods, eggs and poultry -using dry team. The disinfection process enables to send the produce to food stores after it has been disinfected; so therefor its shelf life is expected to be longer.
